We at Something 2 Dance 2 have had the pleasure of working with Sara Boal, Banquet Sales Manager at Maggiano’s Schaumburg, throughout her career in the wedding industry. And being one of my favorite restaurants, I wanted to remind my readers that Maggiano’s also does an amazing wedding and special event business featuring the most delicious Italian food that you would expect. I had the opportunity to sit down with Sara and learn more about her and what Maggiano’s has to offer.
Tell me about yourself and your experience in the wedding industry: I have been in the event planning industry for 12 years now, my career background started within the hotel industry working for a Hilton brand hotel as a catering manager, then I spent some time within the Marriott chain at a Renaissance as their Director of Catering, and now this year I have taken a new yet familiar route with joining the Maggiano’s team in Schaumburg! Event planning is a very rewarding job to me, especially my weddings. It’s a great feeling to know you had a part in creating a couple’s special day!
Tell me more about your new position at Maggiano’s Schaumburg: I joined their team in January & have been loving it! I am a banquet sales manager on a team of 3. It’s a high volume venue. I jumped into the team and we’ve kept up the momentum ever since!
What type of event makes up the most of your business? The social market is HUGE! From extravagant mitzvahs, elegant wedding receptions, fun birthday parties, memorable showers, and many other special events!
What other services can Maggiano’s offer? Many people don’t know about how much space is on the 2nd floor of Maggiano’s Schaumburg. We have 6 different individual rooms, plus our main ballroom. And if we can’t accommodate your event in our private banquet space; Maggiano’s can come to you! We offer our delivery and carry out services as well for any type of party!
What are some summer wedding trends you are seeing this season? Lots of bright colors, and at Maggiano’s our homemade sangria! It’s a hit at every event! We can also create a special signature cocktail for your event too!
Oh I love that idea! A signature cocktail can really personalize the day for the bride & groom!
I Have a huge sweet tooth so I have to ask what your favorite dessert is from Maggiano’s? Hands down the Nonna’s toasted pound cake, it’s served with caramelized bananas, vanilla bean ice cream, and homemade hot fudge! Mmmmmm…
Oh Sara…you had me at caramelized bananas!

This beautiful weather makes me think of weddings, backyard barbecues and cocktail parties with friends. But many of us are so busy during the summer months that it becomes difficult to plan a party, create the menu, shop for menu items and of course cook all of the food. It becomes increasingly difficult if you are a baker (like me) and not a cook! Luckily I found the perfect caterer who has delighted our guests throughout the years with his culinary expertise and outgoing personality. Chef Doug Yeomans of Tarragon Catering has provided the food for several of our fundraisers for Fox Valley Rep in St. Charles. Not only is his food amazing, but his personality is one of no other chef I have encountered. Doug’s thoughtfully prepared food and gorgeous presentation made our fundraisers a huge success. He uses the freshest highest quality ingredients (many are from his own garden!) that you can taste in every single bite.
And the public agrees: Tarragon Catering was recently named Best Caterer in The Fox Valley by The Kane County Chronicle! Way to go Doug!
So if you are planning a wedding reception or summer party we would highly recommend Chef Doug to anyone looking for an amazing culinary experience. For sample menu ideas and to learn how you can have Chef Doug at your next event, please visit him at: http://tarragoncatering.vpweb.com/
On Saturday our sister company Elegant Event Lighting had the task of transforming Embassy Suites Chicago into a swanky lounge for Joselyn & David’s Wedding Celebration. Our team draped the walls in white fabric with royal blue uplighting to create a really “cool” vibe. We brought in gorgeous white leather furniture to complete the lounge seating area for guests to enjoy cocktails and conversation. We created yet another dramatic effect with a white dance floor with blue color wash.

Today is May 1, the official start of wedding season here in Chicago. So for those of you still looking for summer wedding ideas, look no further. Thanks to The Knot for these inspired ideas.
The wedding cake! Choose summer flavors you loved as a child. Think strawberries & whipped cream filling, orange vanilla (remember creamsicles!), or lemon meringue…so summery & so yummy!
Cocktail Music! Do you have memories of attending Jimmy Buffet concerts every summer? Have your DJ create an Island Themed Cocktail Hour to really put your guests in the mood to have fun.
Green Wedding Favors! Treat your guests to a favor that will last long after your wedding is over. Locally grown herbs planted in glass jars are a unique way to be kind to the earth. Or try pretty wrapped packets of your favorite flower seeds for each guest. This also adds a lovely touch to your summer wedding.
