If you follow my column or know me even remotely, you know that I love sweets–chocolate, ice cream, gelato, cupcakes, pies, caramel, peanut butter and the list goes on. So I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite treats and where you could get them whenever you are in the mood. For me, every day is Valentine’s Day!

If you are in Chicago or New York City, be sure to stop by Magnolia Bakery for the best Banana Pudding ever!  I know they are famous for cupcakes, but trust me on this one…the banana pudding is one of the best desserts I have ever had.

One of my all time favorite desserts is the Banana Pudding at Magnolia Bakery.

If you like pie and happen to be in New York City, you must visit Hill Country Chicken.  They make the most delicious mini-pies from scratch just like mom used to make but in mini-versions.  My favorite was their seasonal Sweet Potato Pie with marshmallow topping.

And finally, I must end with a photo of my main guilty pleasure: ice cream!  I would have it for breakfast, lunch or dinner if I could.  If you are searching for yummy dessert ideas, please feel free to drop me a line.  Happy Valentine’s Day to you all…don’t forget to enjoy something sweet with your sweetheart today and every day!

It’s National Peanut Butter Month!

Wow! This Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake from The Sugar Path in Geneva looks delicious!

Did you know that November is National Peanut Butter Month?  How did I not know about this all of these years?  I am obsessed with any peanut butter dessert and so is my husband.  From peanut butter ice cream, to peanut butter cups and of course our childhood favorite PB & J sandwiches!  It takes 540 peanuts to fill one jar of peanut butter…now that’s a lot of peanuts!

I would not want to leave out another classic combo:  Peanut Butter & Chocolate.  And one of our favorite peanut butter and chocolate desserts is the Peanut Butter Icebox Pie from Magnolia Bakery.  You must treat yourself to a slice this month.

So get out there and celebrate! Even if you are simply dipping a good old fashioned chocolate bar into your jar of peanut butter.

Always a classic: Peanut Butter & Jelly Cupcakes!

Yummy Fall Treats!

October is one of my favorite months! Not only are the Fall colors bright and beautiful, but this month also celebrates one of my favorite things: Dessert! Yes people, October is National Dessert Month. So I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite Fall treats with all of you along with where you can go and get them.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies!  I am a huge fan of whoopie pies, but one of my all time favorites are the Pumpkin Whoopie Pies at Magnolia Bakery.  The cakes are soft and pillowy and filled with delicious pumpkin cream cheese filling.  And you don’t have to travel all the way to NYC, we are lucky enough here in Chicago to have our very own Magnolia Bakery downtown on Block 37.

Apple Pie!  I love apples all year-round, but the Fall varieties in particular are my favorite (Honey Crisp, Jonagold, Fuji), and they make the most delicious pies.  Our friends at The Sugar Path in Geneva make the most beautiful pies that taste amazing!  You can tell that these pies are made with love!

Pumpkin Pie Blizzard!  I was just introduced to the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard from Dairy Queen last week by my husband Jay and OMG, it tasted exactly like pumpkin pie in a creamy delicious ice cream form…whipped cream and all.  Go get one today and let me know what you think.

Magnolia Bakery hits Chicago!

Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes

If you follow my Blog you already know about my obsession with desserts…especially cupcakes! A cupcake is one of the most perfect desserts. Not only are they delicious, but they are the perfect hand held treat for wedding receptions. I have been a long time fan of Magnolia Bakery since we began traveling to New York City back in 1997, and I was so excited when they finally opened here in Chicago this month.  Yes, they have amazing cupcakes, but my absolute favorite treat at Magnolia is their Banana Pudding.  If you have never had banana pudding you must try it. Delicious vanilla pudding layered with fresh bananas and vanilla wafers…so simple but so incredibly good.  I have waited in line many times for this in New York and will happily do the same here in Chicago.  It’s just that good!

Magnolia Bakery Chicago is located at 108 N. State Street at Block 37. www.magnoliabakery.com Enjoy!

The Chicago Cupcake Invasion!

Line around the corner at Sprinkles Cupcakes

Banana & Coconut Cupcakes from Sprinkles

The cupcake invasion has hit Chicago and our Brides are loving the idea of serving cupcakes at their wedding. I am a long time cupcake fan, having been bitten by the “cupcake bug” over 10 years ago when I was introduced to Magnolia Bakery in New York City. There are limitless possibilities with cupcakes…flavors, colors, frostings and yes, even fillings.

This year alone Chicago has seen the openings of Sprinkles Cupcakes (a new favorite of mine), Crumbs Bake Shop (another NYC transplant), More Cupcakes (the salted caramel is amazing and they even have a mobile cupcake truck), and in just a few months the rumored opening of Magnolia Bakery on Block 37.  So what’s a Bride to do with all of these choices?  What else…go on a cupcake crawl with your bridal party and taste, taste, taste!  At least that’s what I would do.

If you are having a traditional wedding, go for the classic vanilla cupcake with creamy buttercream frosting and maybe a simple sugar flower on top.  Does your wedding have a vintage theme?  A beautiful red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting will definitely set the tone.  Bucking tradition on your wedding day?  Go for a modern twist, like peanut butter cupcakes with raspberry jelly filling.  And if you are planning a winter wonderland themed wedding, coconut cupcakes with snow-white coconut frosting would be perfect.

With so many flavor combinations you will certainly find the perfect cupcake to fit your perfect day.  And by the way, if you need a taste tester, I’m your girl!
