Erin & Eric’s Wedding at The Onion Pub couldn’t have been more unique. After all, Eric proposed to Erin after they both completed the Illinois Marathon in Champaign with the exact same time! She was completely surprised while family, friends and runners congratulated them on their big finish and their engagement!
DJ Jay Sims was the perfect fit for their wedding as he is also a Marathon Runner and Triathlete. Erin & Eric wanted to bring some of their “competitive spirit” to their reception, so Jay brought out his Spin Bike for a fun game during dinner called “Spin for a Kiss.”
To add even more surprises to their wedding, Erin & Eric hired their college mascot “Herky the Hawk” from the University of Iowa to join the party. Guests old and young enjoyed hitting the dance floor with Herky throughout the night.
The wedding was truly a reflection of Erin & Eric’s journey together…from their first encounter at University of Iowa to their amazing engagement at the Illinois Marathon. Erin & Eric’s love has truly gone the distance!

More 2011 Wedding Trends

Happy New Year! I hope you had an amazing 2010, and as we leap into 2011, I would like to share a few more wedding trends to help as you plan your perfect day.
Wedding Cakes New yummy flavors are coming to the forefront. Go for a flavor you like and ask your baker what non-traditional cake flavors they can offer. Try Red Velvet, Chocolate Orange, Vanilla Bean, or Almond Pound Cake, and fill them with something delicious like dark or white chocolate ganache or Caramel Buttercream. Your guests will thank you for it!
Wedding Stationery Natural pallets are big for 2011. Ocean Blue, turquoise, purple and gold of sunsets and turquoise will be used like never before. Don’t worry, the very traditional cream/ivory with gold-leaf will still be a timeless classic in 2011.
The Dress Wedding gowns are all about texture this year. In past seasons, we have seen pops of color, lots of bling, and feminine detailing galore. In keeping with the subtly luxurious tone of all wedding trends this year, gowns are following suit with visually interesting and rich textures.
Vintage is in The past is back and all vintage ideas are as well. Incorporating modern elements that have a historical past is a growing trend, which is very appreciated by everyone that participates in weddings. Presenting your guests with party favors from historical brands, building the wedding theme around this concept, recycling and wearing your mother or grandmother’s wedding dress, incorporating your parents’ or grandparents’ wedding pictures into the décor, creating an atmosphere of nostalgic romance is always nice and very, very trendy these days.
If you have fun wedding ideas for 2011 that you would like to share, please feel free to post under our comments section. Happy Planning!
